Rising – Southern Spotlight
Director Ron Hagell
6 minutes 18 seconds
2015 saw change in South Carolina. In June a gunman killed nine black church goers in Charleston and, in less than a month, the Confederate flag, a white supremacist symbol, was removed from the statehouse grounds. Then in October a 1000 year flood inundated much of the state causing untold damage and loss of life. But, during and after these events there has been a change – a change that has been a long time coming. The racial bias and ugliness of the past seem to be ebbing away as communities come together to heal. Through the vehicle of dance, we give you our little film as we strive to move forward and repair our damaged lives and checkered past.
